about

This track needs a bit of an explanation.

First of all, the lovely YouTuber Lucahjin has been doing a stream of Hatoful Boyfriend, the pigeon dating simulator. In that game, there is a character, Iwamine Shuu. Without spoiling things, he's really creepy, and whenever he appears, the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies by Tchaikovsky plays. I've been watching the stream and trying to catch every broadcast, and after the stream right before the last one (the one on 21 October 2014), I got the idea to arrange the piece and do a cover of it.

As I started working on it, I thought I'd do something a bit different from my pop-infused alternative rock stuff and go full on metal. I've been looking for an excuse to use my new 7 string in a song, and while it's featured on the project I'm currently working on (there's a few tracks that use it), I don't foresee myself getting that finished and released until probably by the end of the year, if not sometime early next year. So, this track is entirely done on the 7 string.

And like I said, I thought I'd go full on metal with it. I've taken a piece of music written for ballet and transformed it into this really evil sounding motherfucker. It's evil, it's creepy, it's really sludgy, and I feel it is a suitable tribute to Iwamine Shuu.

Anyways, this took me about two days to arrange and record. It's somewhat repetitive, the main theme plays in full about 6 times over the course of the whole 6 minutes, but there's always something slightly different about each repetition to try and keep it interesting. I'm also somewhat proud of the rhythm tones, this song has probably my favorite rhythm guitar tone out of my own work (then again all I really have to compare it to is the Hermaphroditus EP and a bunch of demos that aren't meant to sound pretty).

So, without further ado, I present to you, "Shuu's Dance", a tribute to both Iwamine Shuu, the creepy doctor at St. Pigeonation's, and to Lucahjin.
